The Angel appeared on a hill in Gateshead after much publicity and mixed concerns from local people. I was one of the pessimists who thought it would look like a monstrous, ugly blot on the landscape. Over time it has grown on me and it is a welcome site after a long drive up the A1 from the South. It has now became one of the more famous landmarks on Tyneside.
I tried to get a decent picture of the literature beside the Angel but due to too much sun (!!!), they didn't come out too well.
I took several pictures from in front of the Angel to show how the colour of the structure changes with the slightest change in light.
The following sunset pictures were taken in February 2008. More pictures of The Angel Of The North at sunset can be found on the sunsets page.

These pictures of Tynemouth were taken at sunrise in April 2007. The beginning of the sunrise wasn't spectacular but I did manage some quite nice pics. I took the advantage of experimenting with frames on some of them.
Tynemouth Castle & priory with the clock tower in the foreground.
Not quite Tynemouth but taken from there. This is Souter lighthouse & Marsden Rock with the south pier in the foreground.
Part of the castle.

And with sunrays.......
...which I had to frame.

Knotts flats; home to the luckiest council tennants on Tyneside!
Back to the North pier.
The sky looks almost painted.

I couldn't resist the frame on this one.
A close up of the priory. I love the shadows on the next few....

but had to frame them.
The side of the castle also shadowed......

and framed.
And finally Long Sands; the larger of Tynmouth's beaches.
I thought I should put some Tyneside pictures on since this page has been stood empty for a few days now and Tyneside is my home! The following pictires were taken on a freezing December night with no tripod, so apologies in advance for shivering! I'll replace them as I get newer pics.
The famous Tyne Bridge, partly built as a model for Sydney Harbour Bridge. Unfortunately, the high level bridge in the background has been under canvas for some time now!
The Gateshead Millennium Bridge changes colour. The building to the right is The Baltic. Formerly a flour mill, it's now an art gellery.
The Sage, Gateshead; an excellent concert venue & home to The Northern Symphonia. In the foreground is HMS Callioppe, home to the Royal Navy Reserves.
The Swing Bridge. As the name suggests, it swings to let ships pass.
