Hellvellyn's Views

Lake District & North East England Photography

Autumn 2007

These pictures were taken on 31st of October 2007. As you can see, the cloud is certainly making it's presence known. This made for some very interesting photographs over the two day visit.

Intending to drive from Keswick to Buttermere, I became rather excited at the sight of the angry, bellowing cloud at the South end of Derwent Water & over Borrowdale. A sudden break in the cloud sent sunrays spilling over into the valley below.

With such a spectacular sight being offered, I couldn't resist a detour up to surprise view, just beyond Ashness Bridge. The rays illuminated the ground leading to Bassenthwaite Lake.....

...And the lower slopes of Skiddaw.

Catbells immediatly opposite Surprise View. Although this is one of the smaller of the Lakeland fells, it's very popular with walkers, both amateur & professional alike.

The view across to Bassenthwaite again, with the light shifted.
